UBUNTU: I Am Because We Are
UBUNTU: I Am Because We Are, 20?x30? acrylic on canvas, is an artwork about family supporting one another and growing together while expanding from a base with love while trying to achieve balance. Various human forms can be found throughout the artwork. The word Ubuntu is from an African philosophy involving shared sense of community and connectivity.
A tree with roots shaped like a family hugging a heart and growing next to a river, a trunk shaped like a human torso, and arms reaching up as branches branching out into other figures balancing with the support of the figures before them. On the opposite bank looks like roots in the shape of a person who may have fallen from lack of balance and had to start crawling up the other bank as if starting a new cycle. In the distance is a hazy horizon symbolizing an unknown future. The clouds and haze below a blue sky and the cut of the river between 2 hills forms a large hidden heart shape. The artwork is framed with a delicate custom artist made thin black wooden floater frame.
